  18. Defense Contract Admistration Services Region, Detroit, Highlights, June 4, 1971, “Approved Suggestion Gives Benefits Four Ways”:Miss Patricia Lang, Chief, Customs Branch, Transportation Division, received a Cash Award of $365 for an adopted suggestion.  This is the largest monetary award received thus far this year by a Region employee.  The suggestion resulted in a hange to AsPR 6-605.2, Contract Clause, which eliminated the superfluous memorandum copy of the Bill of Lading (or other shipping document) which was forwarded direct by the Canadian supplier to DCASR, Detroit Customs Branch at the time of shipment of goods into the U.S.  First year hard savings of $7,266 is the tangible benefits accruing to the Region in that there will be about 27, 600 fewer documents to be processed.  Additionally, although not considered in the award computations, there will be savings to Canadian contractors and indirectly to the U.S. Government of an amount estimated at $82,800 annually.  Lastly, but most importantly, is that the ASPR change will provide some measure of relief to Miss Lang and her Customs Clerks.
